In a recent development, Ken Paxton, the Republican Attorney General of Texas, has voiced his criticism of an impending hearing by the Texas House General Investigating Committee.
Paxton, who was previously impeached for alleged misuse of political power, has labeled the hearing as a "desperate establishment plot to resurrect impeachment." Each article of his impeachment was dismissed last year.
According to The Post Millennial, Paxton has previously characterized his impeachment as a "sham impeachment coordinated by the Biden Administration with liberal House Speaker Dade Phelan." He has also expressed his belief that the impeachment process has been weaponized. In a recent interview with Newsmax's Rob Schmitt, Paxton stated, "Next week's House General Investigating Committee is yet another desperate attempt by the Republican establishment to impeach me. Their bitter obsession with taking me down knows no bounds, and they will stop at nothing to remove me from office."
In response to Paxton's comments, an anonymous member of the committee told the Texas Tribune that there was "no truth whatsoever" to Paxton's claim. Chair Rep. Andrew Murr, however, declined to comment, which is not unusual given the committee's tendency to keep the subjects of its meetings confidential.
The notice for the general investigating meeting scheduled for July 17, reads, "The committee will meet to consider committee business. The committee may enter into an executive session to consider any matter authorized to be considered in an executive session under Subchapter B, Chapter 301, Government Code, the Rules of the House of Representatives, the Housekeeping Resolution, and the committees rules."
Paxton further claimed that establishment Republicans in Texas have colluded with Democrats to launch a legal assault against him, similar to how he believes President Biden has used the justice system against Donald Trump. "These lame-duck Republicans, who lost their primaries thanks to my support, are now conspiring with Democrats to remove me from office," he continued. "I have delivered conservative results in Texas and have been the last line of defense against voter fraud. But mark my words, these weak-kneed, pro-open border Republicans will work with the Democrats to replace me with an AG who will turn a blind eye to voter fraud."
Paxton also suggested that the pro-open-border Republicans and Democrats are attempting to "rig this election against Trump." He warned that his removal would "pose the biggest threat to American and Texas democracy as a potential successor might not prosecute voter fraud.
In his concluding remarks, Paxton urged, "The Austin elite cannot go unchecked. Republicans, conservatives, and patriots across the state and country need to come together and fight back. We have defeated the establishment class in Austin before, and we will do it again." This call to action underscores the ongoing tension within the Texas GOP and the broader implications for the conservative movement.
