In a shocking incident, a single shark is believed to have attacked four beachgoers on Independence Day at South Padre Island, Texas.
The victims reportedly suffered varying degrees of injuries, with two individuals bitten, one grazed, and another needing stitches after successfully fending off the shark.
As reported by the Daily Caller, Rayner Cardenas, the father-in-law of one of the victims, vividly described the terrifying encounter. "I turned around, and he wasnt there anymore, Cardenas told local ABC affiliate KRGV 5. I started swimming towards him and he jumped out of the water saying, shark, shark, shark, and thats when adrenaline kicked in. I started swimming after him. Cardenas was able to rescue his son-in-law, with onlookers assisting in bringing him to safety.
The unusual incident has left the local community reeling, as shark attacks are considered a rarity in the region. South Padre Island Fire Chief Jim Pigg expressed his disbelief, stating, Ive lived here 14 years, Ive never seen anything like this. Pigg further informed Fox 9 that the shark had been located and pushed out to deeper waters, emphasizing the rarity of such occurrences on South Padre's beaches. He assured that while there had been no further sightings or encounters, vigilance would be maintained.
The aftermath of the attacks was captured in video footage by beachgoers. One particularly distressing clip showed a woman lying in the water, her calf bleeding from a shark bite, as bystanders applied a makeshift tourniquet.
