Ellen's Last Stand (Literally): Is DeGeneres REALLY Leaving The Spotlight Forever?

Ellen DeGeneres, the renowned television host, has announced her retirement from the entertainment industry following her forthcoming Netflix special.

This revelation was made during a Q&A session after her Monday night performance on July 1, part of her tour, Ellens Last Stand Up. When queried about future appearances on Broadway or in films, DeGeneres responded with a succinct, "Um, no."

"This is the last time you're going to see me," she declared, according to The Decider. "After my Netflix special, I'm done." DeGeneres also addressed the allegations of a toxic work environment that plagued her during her time on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. These accusations, made by anonymous former employees and one current employee, were published in a 2020 BuzzFeed News report. DeGeneres described her experience as being "kicked out of show business for being mean." The final episode of her talk show aired in May 2022, concluding a 19-season run.

DeGeneres reflected on her past attitude towards public opinion, stating, "I used to say, 'I don't care what people say about me.' Now I realize I said that during the height of my popularity." She acknowledged this as her second expulsion from the industry, the first occurring when she publicly came out as gay. DeGeneres humorously predicted her next dismissal, saying, "Next time, I'll be kicked out for being old. Old, gay and mean, the triple crown."

Despite the allegations, DeGeneres maintained her integrity, admitting to being "demanding and impatient and tough," but firmly stating, "I am many things, but I am not mean." She identified herself as a "strong woman," a trait often criticized in the entertainment industry.

The news of DeGeneres's Netflix special was announced in May, with the host indicating that she would address the allegations during the special. "To answer the questions everyone is asking me Yes, I'm going to talk about it. Yes, this is my last special," she stated.

Reflecting on the end of her show during a Q&A session in April, DeGeneres expressed her disappointment, describing the show's conclusion as "devastating." She expressed her love for the show and her regret over its ending, saying, "I just hated the way the show ended. I love that show so much and I just hated that the last time people would see me is that way." This sentiment underscores the emotional toll the allegations and subsequent fallout have taken on the veteran entertainer.
