In a surprising turn of events, a recent poll reveals that a larger percentage of Latino voters trust former President Donald Trump over current President Joe Biden when it comes to immigration issues.
This finding comes from a poll conducted by Equis, which surveyed 1,592 registered Latino voters in key swing states, including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
According to the Daily Caller, the poll found that 41% of Hispanic voters trust Trump to handle immigration, while only 38% expressed the same trust in Biden. The gap widens among non-Hispanic voters, with 49% placing their trust in the former Republican president and the GOP on immigration, compared to a mere 34% for Biden and the Democrats.
The poll's findings suggest a growing frustration among Latino voters with the Democrats' performance on immigration issues. A significant 72% of Latino respondents expressed concern over what they perceive as Democrats' "broken promises" on immigration. Furthermore, 65% of Latino respondents voiced their dissatisfaction with the Democrats' failure to establish a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.
The Equis poll, conducted in both English and Spanish from April 20 to May 5, indicates a margin of error of 2.6 percentage points among those surveyed in battleground states. This poll is the latest in a series of surveys suggesting that Biden's approval ratings on immigration, particularly among Latinos, are on a downward trend.
A CBS/YouGov poll conducted earlier this month found that 53% of Hispanic adults support "a new national program to deport all undocumented immigrants currently living in the U.S. illegally." Only 47% of Hispanic respondents opposed such a measure, a figure that falls outside the poll's margin of error.
The CBS/YouGov survey also revealed that 62% of respondents support the deportation of "all" illegal immigrants from the U.S. This majority includes men, women, independents, conservatives, moderates, Republicans, individuals with a four-year college degree, those without a college education, and people over 30 years of age. The only groups predominantly opposed to such a plan were black Americans, Democrats, liberals, and adults under 30.
An Economist/YouGov poll released earlier this month found that only 29% of Americans approve of Biden's handling of immigration. In contrast, over 60% of respondents in the Economist survey expressed disapproval of his handling of the issue, with 47% stating they strongly disapproved.
These disappointing poll numbers for Biden come at a time when the U.S. is wrestling with a significant illegal immigration crisis. Data from Customs and Border Protection reveals that there have been over seven million migrant encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border during Biden's tenure, underscoring the urgency and complexity of the issue at hand.
