As the New York Democratic primaries draw near, the main contender against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Democrat Martin Dolan, has gained support from an unexpected quarter.
The Post Millennial reports that a Texas-based conservative group, the Job Creators Network, in partnership with the Keep America America Action Fund (KAAAF), has sponsored a billboard in Times Square. The billboard aims to challenge the incumbent Ocasio-Cortez and rally support for Dolan.
The billboard criticizes Ocasio-Cortez for her stance on crime, illegal immigration, police defunding, and her other far-left positions. Ocasio-Cortez has been representing New York's 14th District, which includes sections of Queens and Brooklyn, since 2019. The KAAAF, on its donation page, expressed its dissatisfaction with Ocasio-Cortez's performance, stating, "New York is hurting and AOC isnt helping. This just isnt working for NY-14. AOC is out of touch and shes making things worse for NY-14. Rising crime is putting us at risk, illegal immigration is creating chaos on our streets, and sky-high inflation is killing our family budgets. Meanwhile, AOC is talking about herself on television and Instagram."
The billboard also took a jab at Ocasio-Cortez's opposition to Amazon's planned move to New York, stating, "P.S. Too bad you pushed out 25,000 Amazon jobs 'cuz you're about to need one!" It then encouraged those who agreed with its message to vote for Dolan.
As reported by the New York Post, Dolan initially intended to challenge Rep. Jamaal Bowman but switched his focus to Ocasio-Cortez in March. He cited her far-left policies as detrimental to Americans as his reason for the switch. In a statement to the New York Post, the Job Creators Network described Dolan as "a much-needed voice of moderation that will help small businesses and working families in New York City and beyond."
In response to the billboard, Ocasio-Cortez made light of the fact that it was placed in Times Square, outside her district, referring to it as "D-Margaritaville." This isn't the first time the Job Creators Network has targeted Ocasio-Cortez. In 2019, it criticized her opposition to Amazon's proposed move to New York through a Times Square billboard, highlighting the economic impact of her decision and sarcastically thanking her for her contribution.
