In a historic move, Buc-ee's, the beloved gas station-cum-country store, has once again set a record with its latest travel center in Luling, Texas.
The newly opened location now proudly holds the title of the world's largest gas station, according to Newsweek.
Situated just off I-10, approximately an hour east of San Antonio, the new Buc-ee's spans over 75,000 square feet. This makes it roughly 300 feet larger than the previous record holder, another Buc-ee's outlet located in Tennessee. The Luling establishment takes the place of the unique chain's inaugural store, which was constructed in 2003.
Stan Beard, the company's director of real estate and development, expressed his excitement about the new opening, stating, "We are thrilled to open the doors to the world's largest Buc-ee's travel center right here in the great state of Texas." He added, "It's particularly exciting, considering this is the Buc-ee's that started it all, so we are really looking forward to celebrating with the incredible people of Luling."
The Luling store, which employs over 200 individuals, boasts more than 120 gas pumps. It also offers Buc-ee's favorites such as homemade fudge, Czech pastry kolaches, Beaver Nuggets corn puff snacks, and the chain's renowned jerky. Not to forget, the impeccably clean restrooms that Buc-ee's is famous for.
Buc-ee's, which originated in Texas in 1982, has seen a swift expansion across the South and Midwest, with a current count of 48 stores across 10 states. The chain is perhaps most recognized not for the size or variety of its stores, but for its pristine bathrooms, which won the Cintas award for "Best Restroom in America" in 2012.
All Buc-ee's outlets operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Interestingly, the company has a policy of not allowing 18-wheelers at its locations, stating that "the company's parking lots and driveways aren't designed to accommodate truckers." Despite this policy sparking controversy among truck drivers, it has not impacted the chain's popularity with the general public.
As Buc-ee's continues to grow and break records, it remains a testament to the power of free-market economics and the success that can come from providing quality products and services. The company's commitment to cleanliness, quality, and customer service aligns with traditional values, demonstrating that even in the world of gas stations and convenience stores, these principles still hold true.
