Convicted But Not Defeated: How The RNC Plans To Nominate Trump From Jail

The Republican National Committee (RNC) is reportedly formulating a contingency plan in the event that their presumptive nominee, former President Donald Trump, is incarcerated during the party's convention.

This information was disclosed by the party's chair on Tuesday, as reported by The Hill.

Trump was found guilty on all 34 felony charges related to "hush money" payments last week. The charges stemmed from allegations that he manipulated business records to hide an extramarital affair during his 2016 presidential campaign. His sentencing is slated for July 11, mere days before the RNC convention is set to begin, as per Judge Juan Merchan's schedule.

In light of these developments, Speaker Mike Johnson has called on the Supreme Court to step in.

RNC Chair Michael Whatley remains confident that Trump will be officially nominated at the party's convention in Milwaukee in mid-July. Speaking to Newsmax, Whatley said, Yeah, were working on that right now. Im actually going up to Milwaukee this week, and were going to have a series of conversations.

Whatley further expressed his expectations, stating, We expect that Donald Trump is going to be in Milwaukee and hes going to be able to accept that nomination and if not, we will make whatever contingency planning we need to make for it. But the fact is, hes going to be our nominee, and hes going to be the 47th president of the United States.

Whatley concluded by saying, Well cross that bridge but you sort of have to go into this stuff, as we certainly will be planning on it. Well be thinking about it, and were working on that right now. But what we want to do is we want to have a show that is going to roll out Donald Trump and his vision for America, which is going to set up this election cycle.
