The families of hostages currently held by Hamas have appealed to U.S. President Joe Biden, requesting him to cease his intervention on behalf of the terrorist organization.
The appeal was made public through a statement by The Tikva Forum, an organization that unites the families of abductees. The forum is dedicated to facilitating the swift release of all abductees, driven by national responsibility and faith in the resilience of the State of Israel and the IDF. The statement expressed disapproval of the Biden administration's persistent influence on the Israeli government's decision-making during this critical war.
The Tikva Forum shared on platform X, "The proposal put forth by President Biden, seemingly on behalf of the Israeli government, is a proposition that jeopardizes the future of the State of Israel. We respectfully urge the President to rely on our experience and expertise in the Middle East."
The group further emphasized the necessity of completely annihilating Hamas. They warned that any indication of weakness would embolden the organization to orchestrate the next massacre. The group asserted that the hostages would only be released if Hamas is entirely dismantled and left pleading for assistance. They cautioned that if Gazans are permitted to return to the northern Gaza Strip before the release of all hostages, Israel would lose a significant leverage, potentially endangering the lives of the hostages.
The group concluded their statement by pleading, "Please, honorable POTUS, respect the decisions made by Israel's elected leadership and stand by us as a true ally in this challenging time."
On Tuesday, CIA director William Burns and White House Mideast Czar Brett McGurk reportedly journeyed back to the Middle East for meetings in Doha and Cairo, aiming to further a hostage deal proposed by Biden last week.
The proposed deal has been met with considerable opposition within Israel, with many believing it would enable Hamas to retain power. Hamas has not formally responded to the proposal, but on Tuesday, Hamas official Osama Hamdan suggested that the terrorist organization also had reservations about the plan.
Since the October 7 attacks on the Jewish state, over 120 hostages, including 5 Americans, have been held captive by Hamas.
