In a recent development, an anonymous woman, known as Jane Doe 11, has filed a lawsuit against a renowned 91-year-old psychiatrist, Henry Jarecki, accusing him of sexual assault and manipulation.
The woman alleges that Jarecki, who was referred to her by the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, exploited her for years, transforming her into a "modern-day sex slave."
The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan federal court on Monday, alleges that Jarecki began exerting control over and sexually assaulting the woman in 2011. This occurred after Epstein, who had been sexually abusing her, recommended Jarecki as the "best doctor in New York City" to treat her depression.
Jane Doe 11, a former model, alleges that Jarecki, a "wealthy, well-connected" psychiatrist, was Epstein's preferred doctor. She claims that he regularly treated Epstein's victims and frequently shared confidential medical information about young women with Epstein.
However, Sarita Kedia, Jarecki's attorney, has categorically denied the allegations, dismissing them as "entirely false and baseless." In a statement, Kedia asserted, "Dr Jarecki never engaged in any abusive conduct with the complainant or any other person."
According to the court filing, the woman began experiencing depression after Epstein started sexually abusing her in 2010, shortly after she arrived in the U.S. seeking work as a model. She agreed to meet Jarecki, then in his late 70s, for an initial mental health consultation at his residence in Manhattan's upscale Gramercy Park neighborhood.
The lawsuit states, "During this first consultation, Jarecki told Jane Doe 11 that he had something that could make her happy right away. However, instead of prescribing her medication, Jarecki presented her with an expensive wristwatch." The woman alleges that Jarecki, who had promised to "save" her from Epstein, subsequently forced her into a tour of his home before sexually assaulting her in his bedroom.
The lawsuit further alleges that Jarecki coerced the woman into a "commercial relationship" by repeatedly threatening her work status in the U.S. and threatening to return her to Epstein. She claims that he pressured her to move into an apartment near his home, which he then used as a base to force her into sexual acts.
The court documents state, "Any time Jane Doe 11 would appear depressed or put up any level of resistance, Jarecki would remind her of the high rent that he could be charging and aggressively threaten punishment if she did not follow his sexual commands."
The woman alleges that Jarecki sexually assaulted her dozens of times from 2011 through 2014 in New York City and trafficked her to his private Caribbean island. The lawsuit also alleges that Jarecki eventually coerced her into participating in threesomes and forced her to have sex with other men in his presence.
The lawsuit states, "While Jarecki ramped up his sexual domination over Jane Doe 11, and she in turn showed more signs of emotional deterioration, Jarecki would constantly remind her of her fragile immigration status and demonstrate even greater control over her life."
Jarecki, a longtime Yale University faculty member and author of "Modern Psychiatric Treatment," is the latest individual to be sued over connections to Epstein, who committed suicide in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
The civil lawsuit seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages for sexual battery, emotional distress, and violations of the federal Trafficking Victims Protection Act.
