In a shocking incident at the Topsham Fairgrounds, a lobster-themed monster truck, known as the Crushstation, struck an overhead power line during a performance, resulting in the collapse of several utility poles and causing injuries to spectators.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, led to two individuals being hospitalized, while others sustained minor injuries, according to Topsham police.
The monster truck event took a dramatic turn when the Crushstation, modeled after a lobster, launched off a ramp and collided with the power line. The impact caused a domino effect, with multiple utility poles and a transformer plummeting near the grandstands, leaving live wires strewn across the ground. The driver of the Crushstation, however, escaped unscathed.
Spectator Mike Hersom, who was present at the event with his three-year-old son, recounted the harrowing experience. "Im still a little bit shaken up," he admitted. Hersom narrowly evaded the falling transformer and was left in disbelief at the close call. "When I watched the video, it was like, Holy smokes. Thats crazy," he remarked on Sunday.
The event's promoter has not responded to requests for comment. Similarly, the owners of the Maine-based Crushstation, a clever twist on the term crustacean, have yet to comment on the incident.
