Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has reiterated his intention to participate in the upcoming CNN presidential debate between incumbent President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, scheduled for June 27 in Atlanta.

This announcement came just hours after the debate was officially confirmed.

Kennedy expressed confidence in meeting the necessary criteria to join the debate before the June 20 deadline. He stated, "Im happy to report that I will meet the criteria to participate in the CNN debate before the June 20 deadline." He further expressed his eagerness to challenge both Biden and Trump on their records, promising to "give Americans the debate they deserve."

Upon learning of the agreed debate between Biden and Trump, Kennedy accused the two of "colluding to lock America into a head-to-head match-up that 70% say they do not want." He suggested that their attempts to exclude him from the debate were driven by fear of his potential victory, arguing that "keeping viable candidates off the debate stage undermines democracy."

Kennedy further emphasized the need for a break from the two-party system, stating, "If Americans are ever going to escape the hammerlock of the two-party system, now is the time to do it." He noted that 43 percent of Americans identify as independent.

Earlier on Wednesday, Biden had challenged Trump to a debate, following Trump's repeated calls for a face-off. Trump promptly accepted, and the date was set for June 27. The debate will be moderated by CNN's Jake Tapper and, at the request of the Biden campaign, will not have a studio audience.
