As expected, the government is going crazy over the Twitter files.
These are files made public after Elon Musk took over Twitter. Many gave insight into the government attempting to censor specific stories, such as the story of Hunter Bidens laptop. Now, theyre demanding that Musk hand them over.
The Federal Trade Commission declares that Musk has to hand over the files and the names of every journalist that has access to the files.
Fox News reports that the information the FTC ordered includes a demand to identify all journalists who were granted access to the companys archives. The FTC also ordered Twitter to turn over anything involving the massive layoffs and the Twitter Blue subscription service, provide all internal communications related to Musk, and explain why Twitter fired its deputy general counsel, former FBI lawyer Jim Baker.
The letters emerged due to an interim staff report from the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Government. This move is an overreach of the government using Lina Kahn to harass Twitter.
Many points out that the FTCs moves have little to do with protecting users or with users privacy. Instead, its more than likely a political move.
Fox says:
The timing, scope, and frequency of the FTCs demands to Twitter suggest a partisan motivation to its action. When Musk took action to reorient Twitter around free speech, the FTC regularly followed soon after that with a new demand letter, the GOP-led House Judiciary Committee wrote in a press release on Tuesday.
The committee also points out how illogical the demands are. Why would they need to know every ounce of internal communication that involves Elon Musk? What is the logic behind needing to know the identity of the journalists that can see the Twitter Files? They dont.
They also dont need to be able to analyze Twitters personal decisions, such as laying off people. When he took over the tech giant, Elon Musk clarified that mass layoffs were necessary because the company was hemorrhaging money. Now, however, they need to know everything about everyone. Its ridiculous and more overreach from the Biden Regime.
An FTC spokesperson states that its about protecting consumers privacy and involves a consent order that Twitter was a party to before Musk took over. Thats so ridiculous its almost laughable. This move has nothing to do with protecting privacy. This latest is one more key example of the weaponization of the government and the Biden Regime attempting to ensure that people cant enjoy free speech unless it benefits them.
