In a recent statement, former President Donald Trump held his successor, President Joe Biden, responsible for the surge of pro-Hamas demonstrations taking place at universities nationwide.
This comment was made shortly before a court hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
On Monday, Yale University witnessed the arrest of at least 40 protesters who were obstructing traffic around the campus. Columbia University, on the other hand, suspended in-person classes on the same day and announced a transition to hybrid learning for Tuesday. Trump attributed these incidents to Biden's perceived leniency towards Hamas and his alleged abandonment of Israel.
Discussing the situation at Columbia and NYU University, Trump stated, "This is a disgrace. And its really on Biden. He has the wrong signal. He has the wrong tone. Hes got the wrong words. He doesnt know who hes backing. And its a mess."
Trump further criticized Biden's leadership, saying, "Whats going on is a disgrace to our country and its all Bidens fault, and everybody knows that hes got no message, hes got no compassion. He doesnt know what hes doing. He cant put two sentences together, frankly. He is the worst president in the history of our country."
The former president also expressed concern over the allocation of police resources in New York City, particularly the heavy police presence at his trial related to a $130,000 payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in 2016 as part of a confidentiality agreement.
"We have more police presence here than anyones ever seen, but blocks, you cant get near this courthouse, and if you have nobody up in a college, where you have very radical people wanting to rip the colleges down, the universities down and thats a shame," Trump said. "But it all starts with Joe Biden, the signals he puts out are so bad. And I can tell you hes no friend of Israel, thats for sure and hes no friend of the Arab world."
Trump also criticized Biden's approach to the Middle East, stating, "He doesnt know what to do. He wants to take like a middle ground and oftentimes that doesnt work, but its certainly not working here. But what hes done to Israel is abandoned them, and hes tried to be as nice as he can to the other side, call it the Arab world. But thats not working either because they get him and hes an incompetent man."
Biden has recently voiced criticism of Israel's response to the Oct. 7 terrorist attack by the radical Islamic terrorist group Hamas. Since the attack, Ivy League schools have seen multiple demonstrations where protesters have made statements like "resistance is justified." This includes an Oct. 15 protest where attendees chanted a slogan with implications of eradicating Israel, following a Cornell University professor's description of the attacks as "exhilarating."
The fallout from Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik of New Yorks questioning of Harvard President Claudine Gay and University of Pennsylvania president Liz Magill during a Dec. 5 hearing held by the House Education and Workforce Committee resulted in both university presidents resigning from their posts.
"A peace will never happen with a guy like this," Trump concluded, referring to Biden.
