An Arizona school board member wants to reject a potential hire with Christian values.
Fox News Digital found that Arizonas Washington Elementary School District board member Tamillia Valenzuela wore cat ears to a school board meeting as she described her feelings. She expressed that the Board needs to reject potential hires within the school system with Christian values, as she said they are too dangerous to be considered for positions within the school system.
This school board system serves the Phoenix and Glendale, Arizona communities, and many people are frustrated and upset about the suggestion.
The school board has maintained a contract with Arizona Christian University for five years. However, Fox News reports that on February 23 of this year, the Board voted to dissolve that contract with the Christian university. The Board did not immediately respond to a request for comment by Fox News about why they appear to have anti-Christian bias.
Tamillia Valenzuela attacked the university for its Christian beliefs and values and said she was disheartened to learn that the contract with that university had been ongoing for the last five years.
Valenzuela describes herself as a bilingual, disabled, neurodivergent Queer Black Latina who loves a good hot wing (but only with the right ranch) and things that sparkle.
She stated:
While I full-heartedly believe in [the] religious freedom and people being able to practice whatever faith that they have, I had some concerns regarding looking at this particular institution,
and
And I think its [a really] good time for us to take a moment and [really] pause about where our values lie.
She continued by saying:
And while I understand we are currently in a situation across the nation that we have a teacher shortage and recruiting is [really] difficult,
Valenzuela went on to point out that some of the values of the Christian university are not in keeping with her worldview.
She said:
Part of their values is... [to] transform the culture with truth by promoting the Biblically-informed values that are foundational to Western civilization, including the centrality of family, traditional sexual morality, and lifelong marriage between one man and one woman.
Regardless, many throughout Arizona profess the Christian faith. Many are upset that this individual believes it is her right and her responsibility to try to eliminate contracts with a university proud of its Christian values.
