One Foot Out The Door: New Orleans Mayor Faces Recall As Organizers Push To Remove Her

Organizers are working hard to gather the signatures necessary to remove the Mayor of New Orleans.

After a spate of poor performance by the Mayor on many critical issues, the community is interested in doing everything it can to begin to get some justice by removing its Mayor and cleaning up the citys image. Sadly, those who live in New Orleans have to deal with the fact that their city has been named the murder capital of the United States..

The organizers of this recall effort say they have gathered enough signatures to trigger a recall vote on New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell.

Right now our mayor doesnt love New Orleans so the citizens and the residents stood up, said Eileen Carter, vice chair of the No LaToya recall campaign, when speaking with Fox News. She continued: Were taking our city back, and were gonna save New Orleans.

The campaign to remove Cantrell began in August 2022 as organizers were fed up with the failure of leadership they believed was entirely on display by their Mayor. They are disappointed by what has happened to their city and dont feel like their Mayor has properly represented them at this time.

The organizers of this push handed their collection of signatures to the Orleans Parish Registrar of Voters office to verify those signatures and schedule a recall vote for the Mayor. There was a February 22nd deadline to turn in at least 50,000 signatures; organizers say they exceeded that number.

Mayor LaToya, it aint that we hate you, Batiste said, and You didnt do your job, and youre about to be fired.

Carter worked in the Mayors social media department for some time, but even she says it has been challenging to watch the Mayor quiet quit during her second term. In other words, she feels that the Mayor doesnt even necessarily want to do the job she is doing any longer, but she doesnt want to quit either. This has left people in a curious limbo as they arent able to get rid of a Mayor that simply isnt doing her job as she should.

During a February 19th Mardi Gras parade, Cantrell was seen flipping off participants. Her communications director, Gregory Joseph, said this was meant to be playful. However, this is just the latest sign that Cantrell does not appear fit to be Mayor of New Orleans.
