The Mossad has revealed an increase in Iran's efforts to target Israelis globally since October 7, citing the recent arrest of two Iranians in Cyprus connected to a terrorist plot as evidence of this growing threat.
According to The Jerusalem Post, the Mossad assisted in apprehending the two individuals for interrogation regarding their alleged plans to carry out attacks against Israeli residents on the island. The Kathimerini Cyprus newspaper reported that the suspects were in the initial stages of gathering intelligence on potential Israeli targets, with alleged ties to a person associated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
The Israel Prime Ministers Office, speaking on behalf of the Mossad and the National Security Agency, credited the intelligence gathered on the terrorists, their tactics, and the planned targets for the successful operation, as reported by the Times of Israel.
While a senior official in Cyprus refrained from commenting due to national security protocols, Cyprus has historically been a favored destination for Israeli tourists and investors due to its location in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
In a previous statement highlighted by The Post, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu disclosed the thwarting of an Iranian plot against Israeli targets in Cyprus back in June. Despite Tehran's denial of involvement in any schemes targeting Israelis in Cyprus, the situation remains tense.
