An Indiana couple, Nichole Neely, 42, and Owen Miller, 43, have been apprehended and charged with felony child neglect following a distressing incident where their six-month-old infant was discovered to have ingested Fentanyl and Methamphetamine, leading to tragic consequences.
The distressing situation unfolded when a concerned neighbor alerted authorities on January 18 after finding the baby unconscious and not breathing. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the infant was regrettably pronounced deceased.
According to reports from WNDU, Neely and Miller are facing serious allegations, including neglect resulting in the death of a dependent and endangering the dependent by placing them in a hazardous environment.
In a harrowing revelation during interrogations, Neely disclosed that upon returning from a brief absence in the kitchen, she found the child unresponsive in the bedroom with Miller. Their attempts to seek help from a neighbor, who had medical expertise, proved futile.
Upon police intervention, the dire living conditions in the couple's residence came to light, with trash strewn across the kitchen, moldy food containers attracting flies, and an overpowering stench of decay pervading the home.
Court documents underscore the appalling state of the house, with clutter obstructing access to certain areas. Shockingly, a baby bottle containing a suspicious brown liquid with a fly inside was discovered on the bed.
Miller, found in an overdose state, was promptly administered Narcan by law enforcement. Furthermore, two other children, aged six and eight, were also hospitalized and treated for Fentanyl poisoning, adding to the gravity of the situation.
