A 25-year-old Detroit man, Nicholas Jordan, has been apprehended and charged with the murder of two individuals in a dormitory at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.
The incident occurred on Friday, with the victims identified as Samuel Knopp, 24, a fellow student, and Celie Montgomery, 26, a mother of two who was not enrolled at the university.
The motive behind the fatal incident remains unclear. However, Colorado Springs police have stated that it was an "isolated incident between individuals who were known to one another." Police Chief Adrian Vasquez confirmed to NBC News that Jordan and Knopp were roommates.
The tragic event unfolded around 6 a.m. local time on Friday at the Alpine Village Apartments, a dormitory for upperclassmen. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of Knopp and Montgomery, prompting an immediate lockdown of the campus as authorities searched for a potential active shooter.
Fox News Digital obtained dispatch audio revealing the initial uncertainty of first responders about the stability of the scene and the possibility of a gunman still at large on campus.
By Friday night, investigators had linked Jordan to the crime and secured a warrant for his arrest. Despite a weekend-long search, Jordan's name was not publicly released until Monday evening. The police maintained their silence about the specifics of the shooting, reiterating only that it was an "isolated event."
The limited information available left students and parents anxious, leading to the cancellation of Monday's classes. However, relief came early Monday morning when the Colorado Springs Police Departments Motor Vehicle Theft Unit spotted Jordan. A tactical team swiftly arrested him without incident by 8:37 a.m.
Jordan is currently being held on a $1 million bond in the El Paso County, Colorado, jail. He faces two counts of first-degree murder. His mugshot was released on Monday night.
