Prominent radio host Charlamagne tha God has voiced his criticism of President Biden, describing him as an "uninspiring candidate" and suggesting that he should rely more on Vice President Harris, whom he considers "more charismatic."
The radio personality also revealed that he receives backlash from the White House whenever he publicly criticizes the President, a reaction he finds to be "the stupidest thing ever."
In an interview with ABC "This Week" co-anchor Jonathan Karl, Charlamagne expressed his views on the President's lack of appeal. "There's nothing about Joe Biden that makes you want to listen to him," he said. He suggested that Biden should be more of a behind-the-scenes figure, relying on more inspiring and charismatic individuals to be the face of his administration. "It sounds crazy that we're saying that about a President of the United States of America, but he has no main character energy at all," Charlamagne added.
When asked if his opinion was influenced by Biden's age, Charlamagne dismissed the notion. He compared Biden to former President Donald Trump, who is only a few years younger, but appears more youthful and energetic. Biden, who is 81, has faced repeated criticism over his age and questions about his ability to serve a second term. These concerns were highlighted earlier this month following a special counsel report that included a harsh assessment of Biden's memory.
Charlamagne also expressed his belief that citizens should be able to criticize their elected officials. He explained that his criticisms of Biden stem from his concerns about the upcoming November elections. "Where is the sense of urgency?" he asked. "You can't keep saying that there's a threat to democracy, and democracy as we know it is going to be gone, but not act like it."
The radio host, who rarely appears on Sunday morning political shows, made these comments just months after he urged Biden to withdraw from the presidential race due to low polling numbers. He also criticized the narrative surrounding Republican candidates, claiming that they are consistently "demonized" by the Democratic Party.
Charlamagne, who endorsed Biden in 2020 primarily because of Harris's inclusion on the ticket, expressed disappointment in the Vice President's performance so far, but noted that there is still time for her to change course. He highlighted her unique position as the first woman of color to serve as Vice President, suggesting that she could address issues that Biden cannot.
Charlamagne also expressed his desire to see Harris "prosecute the case" against Trump, based on her performance in Senate hearings. Despite his criticisms, he clarified that he will not endorse any candidate, but will continue to speak out about perceived threats to democracy.
In response to Karl's suggestion that his comments sounded like an endorsement against Trump, Charlamagne clarified, "I don't think that's an endorsement. I'm just simply telling people what is going on out there because I'm going to speak the truth about Democrats, too, because I feel like if you lie to people about Democrats, they won't believe you when you tell them the truth about Republicans."
