The atmosphere in Hollywood's elite circles appears to be heating up this February, with a high-profile dispute involving music legends Ozzy Osbourne, his wife Sharon, and rapper Kanye West.
The Osbournes have publicly criticised West for using a sample from a Black Sabbath song in his music, despite their refusal to grant him permission. The controversy was first reported by TMZ, who quoted Ozzy Osbourne's fiery response to West's actions.
Ozzy Osbourne took to social media platform X on Friday, expressing his outrage at West for featuring a sample of a Black Sabbath song in his track 'Vultures.' Although Osbourne believed the sampled song to be 'War Pigs,' it bore a closer resemblance to 'Iron Man.' Regardless, his anger was palpable.
"@kanyewest ASKED PERMISSION TO SAMPLE A SECTION OF A 1983 LIVE PERFORMANCE OF 'WAR PIG' FROM THE US FESTIVAL WITHOUT VOCALS & WAS REFUSED PERMISSION BECAUSE HE IS AN ANTISEMITE AND HAS CAUSED UNTOLD HEARTACHE TO MANY," Osbourne wrote. He continued, "HE WENT AHEAD AND USED THE SAMPLE ANYWAY AT HIS ALBUM LISTENING PARTY LAST NIGHT. I WANT NO ASSOCIATION WITH THIS MAN!"
Sharon Osbourne echoed her husband's sentiments in her conversation with TMZ, stating, "Kanye f***ed with the wrong Jew this time." She revealed that she and Ozzy had sent a cease and desist letter to West. According to Sharon, a representative from West's team had contacted them three weeks prior, seeking permission to use an old Black Sabbath song.
The Osbournes' refusal, as reported by TMZ, appears to be fueled by personal resentment, likely due to West's repeated controversial statements about Jewish people. Sharon Osbourne noted that her husband rarely denies such requests, but this was a "special f***ing occasion to say no."
The couple's stance is clear: West's alleged antisemitism is unacceptable. Sharon Osbourne described West as representing "hate" and being a "disrespectful antisemite." She also labelled him as "dangerous" and a "pig."
Sharon Osbourne emphasized that the family does not want any association with West, regardless of the length of the Black Sabbath sample used. She warned that if West continues to use Ozzy's music, he may face legal repercussions.
