Kari Lake, the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate from Arizona, has expressed her vehement disapproval of the border bill that Senator Kyrsten Sinema played a part in negotiating.
Lake made her sentiments clear by discarding the bill into a trash can during a press conference held in Phoenix on Wednesday.
Lake stated at the conference, We werent sure what was going to happen with this bill today. We just got some good news that the Senate, hearing the loud demands and cries of the American people, have looked at this 300 pages of pure garbage and said, were not going to let this bill see the light of day.' She then proceeded to throw the bill into a trash can placed next to her podium.
In a subsequent social media post, Lake dubbed the bill as the Invasion Authorization Act. She criticized President Joe Biden for revoking an effective border policy on the first day of his administration. Joe Biden, on day 1 of his administration, pulled back an incredibly effective border policy that was working and keeping the American people safe, Lake said. She added, He pulled that back, and basically told the world to come on over. And now we have a crisis on our hands, and we were so hopeful that the folks in the Senate were going to do something good. Give us something good to protect our border.
Lake argued that the American people desire a halt to the influx of Fentanyl across the border and the unchecked entry of hundreds of thousands of individuals into the country each month.
Last month, House Speaker Mike Johnson released a list of 64 actions taken by Biden and his administration that have contributed to the border crisis. The list includes Biden's decision to halt border wall construction on his first day in office and his proposal for legislation that would provide a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.
Johnson also pointed out that Biden removed limitations and restrictions against immigration from certain countries associated with terrorism that were implemented during Trump's presidency. Moreover, Biden rescinded Trumps Remain in Mexico policy for asylum seekers, placed a 100-day moratorium on deportations, and suspended asylum cooperation agreements designed to curb the migration from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.
The border bill has been criticized by the GOP, including former President Trump, for its provision that allows 5,000 illegal immigrants a day to be processed before a mandatory border shutdown is enforced.
Sinema, a former Democrat who is now an independent and who helped negotiate the proposed bill, clarified on Phoenix news radio station KTAR on Monday that 5,000 refers to total migrants attempting to cross the border not the number of individuals allowed into the country.
When questioned about Sinemas explanation at Wednesdays press conference by The Western Journal, Lake pointed out that there are several exceptions to the limit. Basically, the invasion would still continue and worse yet, we would be legalizing at least 1.8 million [migrant entries], probably more, each year, she said. Lake concluded, The American people dont want to legalize people who break into our country.
