A 25-year-old middle school teacher from Virginia, Megan Pauline Jordan, is facing a potential 50-year prison sentence after admitting to engaging in sexual activities with her 14-year-old student during the 2022-23 academic year.
The illicit encounters reportedly took place at the student's residence, with the teacher's DNA being discovered on the teenager's bed linens.
Jordan, a former educator at Hungary Creek Middle School in Henrico County, has pleaded guilty to four counts of carnal knowledge and one count of indecent liberties with a minor, as reported by WRIC. These charges are all classified as felonies.
Henrico County Commonwealths Attorney Shannon Taylor revealed the disturbing details of the case on Tuesday. "Ms. Jordan was having sexual relations with her 14-year-old student," Taylor stated, as reported by the Richmond Times-Dispatch. "On several occasions, Ms. Jordan would go to the victims house and have sexual intercourse with the student."
Jordan was initially apprehended in June 2023, facing five counts of carnal knowledge of a minor and two counts of indecent liberties with a minor. She remains in custody without bail and is due to be sentenced on May 20, according to Taylor.
The school district expressed its deep concern over the incident in an email communication to parents last year, describing it as "an extremely serious and upsetting situation." The district pledged to provide ongoing support to the school community.
In the wake of the revelations, one social media user, claiming to be a former student of Jordan's, expressed his suspicions about the inappropriate relationship. "The student wouldnt do any of the work and she wouldnt bat an eye," the user wrote, adding that he had observed "subtle flirting and teasing" and that "the tension between them was insane."
Taylor commended the individuals who alerted the Henrico Police Division to the situation. "We are always asking people if they see something unusual, or not quite right, to say something," she said. "Because of their efforts, this predator is off the streets, out of our schools, and will be held accountable for her actions," Taylor concluded in her statement.
