Rep. Matt Gaetz announced on Tuesday his intention to introduce a resolution in the House of Representatives, asserting that former President Trump did not instigate an insurrection.

The resolution, according to Gaetz, has garnered the support of 63 cosponsors and a corresponding bill is being introduced in the Senate by Sen. JD Vance.

Gaetz stated, "We are here today to authoritively express that President Trump did not commit an insurrection, and we believe Congress has a unique role in making that declaration. Its not the job of states, and especially not the job of some bureaucrats in Colorado, to make this assessment and interfere with the rights of voters to cast their vote for the candidate of their choice." The press conference saw the participation of several Congress members who voiced their support for the resolution and Trump.

Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik expressed, "the American people are smart. They know that the weaponized attacks of radical far-left prosecutors and Joe Bidens Department of Justice against President Donald Trump are nothing more than a targeted political witch hunt used to further their own extreme far-left political agenda and hijack the will of the American people come election day."

Rep Lauren Boebert argued that all the cases filed against Trump essentially amount to "election interference." She added, "Its an act of fear. Theyre afraid of President Trump and they should be because they understand that President Trump, once hes back in the White House, will undo all of the damage that the left has caused the American people over the past four years."

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene highlighted that "not one single person has been charged with insurrection. Not one single person has been convicted with insurrection" in relation to the events of January 6, 2021. She criticized Democrats and the media, stating, "Yet Democrats and dishonest people in the media every single day accused President Trump of waging an insurrection, and accuse many of us of waging an insurrection and youre doing nothing but lying and selling the lies of the Democrats."

Greene drew attention to the Antifa riots that occurred during Trumps inauguration, questioning, "did you call it an insurrection? No." She further questioned, "Did you call it an insurrection" when riots erupted across the country following the death of George Floyd. "No," she answered, "You called it mostly peaceful, and you lied to the American people and the American people dont trust you anymore because of that."
