Former President Donald Trump has hinted at the possibility of conducting political rallies in New York, including the Bronx and Madison Square Garden, as he believes traditionally Democratic states could be persuaded to vote for him.
During a conversation on Fox News' Sunday Morning Futures, host Maria Baritromo brought up speculation about a potential rally in the south Bronx. Trump confirmed the possibility, saying, "I think I will do that."
He further suggested a rally at Madison Square Garden, citing the significant changes in New York over the past two years. "We have migrants all over the street, they are living on Madison Avenue. Nobody can believe what has happened to New York," Trump stated.
The former president expressed his belief that New Yorkers are discontented with the current state of affairs. "The people of New York are angry," he said. "I think we are going to give New York a heavy shot. They are very unhappy in New York."
Trump also speculated that several other states, including New Jersey, Virginia, New Mexico, and Minnesota, could be persuaded to vote Republican, even suggesting that "everything can't be flipped" is not a certainty.
These comments from Trump come on the heels of news that New York City plans to distribute $53 million in pre-paid debit cards, termed "Immediate Response Cards," to undocumented immigrants to assist with food purchases. This move prompted rapper 50 Cent to suggest that "maybe Trump is the answer."
New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, has been vocal in his criticism of the Biden administration's border policies as his city grapples with the consequences. Following a December meeting with President Biden, Adams expressed frustration, stating, "help is not on the way," and warned New Yorkers to prepare for "extremely painful" budget cuts to offset the financial burden caused by the immigration crisis.
Adams likened the city to a household, saying, "Our insurance policy was the federal government. They're not paying us, so everything in that household is going to be impacted."
