House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan has taken action in the ongoing investigation into Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis and her alleged affair with Nathan Wade, the man she hired to prosecute former President Donald Trump.
On Friday, Jordan issued a subpoena to Willis, demanding that she hand over documents related to the matter.
Willis, a Democrat elected in Fulton County, has thus far refused to share records voluntarily, citing confidentiality concerns related to an ongoing criminal case. However, the subpoena issued by Jordan bypasses her refusal and requires her to provide the requested documents.
The alleged affair between Willis and Wade was first brought to light in court papers filed by Trump co-defendant Michael Roman on January 8. Roman argued that Willis's involvement in the case presented a clear conflict of interest. While neither Willis nor Wade have denied the affair, the focus of the subpoena is not solely on their relationship. It is broad enough to encompass any documents that may be relevant to the affair.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Wade, a private-practice attorney, has received $654,000 in legal fees from Willis's office since January 2022. The subpoena issued by Jordan seeks all documents and communications pertaining to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office's receipt and use of federal funds. It also requests any documents related to allegations of the misuse of federal funds by the office.
This subpoena marks a significant development in the investigation into Willis and her alleged affair with Wade. As the House Judiciary Committee continues its probe, the requested documents will provide crucial insights into the potential conflicts of interest and misuse of federal funds within the Fulton County District Attorney's Office.
