Former Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin, who has a close relationship with former President Donald Trump, recently expressed her opinion on the potential presidential candidacy of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in 2024.
Palin does not think that DeSantis should run for President at this time, but she would support him if he decided to make a bid for the White House in the future.
According to Palin, DeSantis should continue to hold the governorship position for a longer period of time. She envisions him as a future President, given his youth and decades ahead of him, to potentially serve in the highest office in the land.
Palin, who received Trump's endorsement during her midterm campaign, believes that the former President has the best chance of securing the GOP nomination. She expressed her opinion on the individuals who may also seek to challenge Trump for the nomination, stating that they possess a lot of courage if they intend to go up against him.
Palin dropped hints about who Trump should choose as his running mate for the next election cycle. "Trump needs to choose somebody who, like him, has nothing to lose. What more can they do to that person personally or verbal attacks or anything else on family? That person has been through the wringer, so they know what they're getting into. And that person then can just focus on doing what's right for the people."
In 2008, Palin was Senator John McCain's running mate in the presidential election, but they were eventually defeated by former President Barack Obama. Palin resigned as governor of Alaska before the end of her term after her vice presidential loss. When asked by Newsmax host Eric Bolling if she was considering running as a potential vice presidential candidate, Palin laughed and said, "not necessarily."
"However, I'll tell you, the opportunity that I had to run with someone who wasn't as commonsense [of a] constitutional conservative as I, and I think the majority of Republicans were, but still having the opportunity to form a team like that in running, in offering ourselves up in service to Americaoh my goodness, no greater honor, no greater opportunity."
Palin suffered two losses in 2022, first losing to Democratic Representative Mary Peltola in a special election to represent Alaska's at-large congressional district and then losing again in the 2022 midterm elections as she ran for a full term in the same seat. Meanwhile, DeSantis is seen as one of the potential frontrunners for the 2024 GOP presidential primary, even though he has yet to enter the race officially.
Recently, DeSantis hinted at a possible run when asked by a reporter if he intended to enter the race following the launch of former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley's campaign, responding with a question, "wouldn't you like to know?"
