Rudy Giuliani, the former lawyer of Donald Trump, has filed for bankruptcy and suggested that the former President has not paid some of his legal fees.
In a new bankruptcy filing submitted to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, Giuliani listed a "possible claim for unpaid legal fees against Donald J. Trump." However, he did not specify the exact amount he believes he is owed.
Giuliani's financial situation was outlined in the filing, revealing that his monthly net income is just $2,308. This comes after Giuliani was ordered to pay $148 million in damages to two Georgia election workers in relation to his 2020 election conspiracies.
According to The New York Times, Giuliani had repeatedly appealed to Trump to pay his overdue legal fees, but to no avail. Giuliani claims that he is owed "millions of dollars" for his efforts to try to keep Trump in power.
Giuliani's financial struggles have been well-documented, and he has previously stated that he cannot afford to pay his legal bills. Despite his recent efforts to raise money for legal fees, he was only able to secure $1 million from 13 donors.
As Trump's personal lawyer, Giuliani played a prominent role in attempting to prove the former president's baseless claims of electoral fraud in the 2020 election. Both Trump and Giuliani, along with 17 others, were criminally charged in Georgia state court in August for their attempts to overturn the election results in the state.
In addition to his financial woes, Giuliani is also facing defamation claims from voting machine manufacturers Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic. Furthermore, Trump was recently ordered to pay $83.3 million in damages in the defamation trial brought against him by E. Jean Carroll.
