Can't Make This Sh*t Up: In-Flight "Farting Fiasco" Grounds An American Airlines Flight

An American Airlines flight was recently compelled to return to the gate due to an unusual disturbance a passenger's excessive flatulence.

The incident, which has since gone viral, occurred on a flight from Phoenix, Arizona, to Austin, Texas.

According to a Reddit user, lamgalatx, the passenger in question was visibly upset even before boarding the plane. "Before most people had boarded, I observed that this man was audibly disgruntled about something, maybe hungover, rough day idk, but as soon as he sat down he was grumbling about something under his breath, like fing hell or something," the user wrote.

The situation escalated after the majority of passengers had boarded. The man reportedly declared, You thought that was rude? Well how about this smell and proceeded to pass gas. The Reddit user noted, "(I dont know) what provoked that comment, and while kinda funny to overhear, it was uncalled for especially coming from a grown man on an airplane nonetheless."

The passenger's inappropriate behavior continued. "The man who just purposefully farted moments ago decides to loudly and condescendingly say Yeah, everybody, lets just eat the smelliest food possible all at the same time," the poster wrote. This comment sparked a heated exchange with other passengers, with one retorting, "If you dont like it you can fly private," and another adding, "I think wed all agree youre the rude one here."

Flight attendants intervened, telling the man, "Thats enough." However, the plane, which was taxiing to the runway, had to return to the gate. "An announcement comes over saying Apologies for the interruption but we are returning to the gate, we will give you more info when we have it," the user wrote.

Upon returning to the gate, a flight attendant informed the man that he would not be continuing on the flight. The man, seemingly confused, was told they would discuss the matter off the plane. He collected his belongings and exited the aircraft.

The Reddit user concluded, "We all breathed a sigh of relief when he was removed, I think most ppl were on edge about what he may say or do next. The trip was only delayed by 15-30 minutes, so all in all I think American handled it swiftly."

The incident sparked a flurry of humorous comments on Reddit, with users making light of the situation. "Maybe another flight was low on gas?" one person wrote, while another suggested the man missed an opportunity to make a dramatic exit by saying, "SMELL YOU LATER!"
