As the race for the Oval Office heats up, independent presidential candidate Robert F.

Kennedy Jr. has been making waves, both literally and figuratively.

The political hopeful recently celebrated his birthday by surfing with 11-time world champion Kelly Slater on North Shore, Puaena Point, during a campaign stop in Hawaii.

Kennedy shared a video of the experience on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. "Best birthday present ever: Catching waves with 11-time world surf champion [Slater] on North Shore, Puaena Point," he wrote, capturing the moment amidst the backdrop of surf rock music.

The independent candidate's visit to the Aloha State was marked by a rally as part of his presidential campaign. Kennedy is currently in the running against President Biden and the yet-to-be-determined Republican nominee. His campaign trail has seen him crisscrossing the country and making appearances in the media, gaining support from an array of celebrities along the way.

In a notable show of support, rock and roll icon Eric Clapton hosted a Los Angeles fundraiser for Kennedy in September, raising an impressive $2.2 million. According to Kennedy's campaign, $1 million of the funds raised went directly to the campaign, while the remaining $1.2 million was allocated to a political action committee supporting Kennedy's bid for presidency.

Slater is not the only high-profile athlete to endorse Kennedy. In November, a trio of former professional athletes publicly announced their support for the independent candidate. NBA legend and 1992 "Dream Team" Olympian John Stockton, Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame member Ken Ruettegers, and three-time North American Enduro mountain biking champion Kyle Warner have all endorsed Kennedy's presidential bid.

The athletes cited Kennedy's authenticity, honesty, and willingness to engage in policy discussions as reasons for their support. Stockton, in particular, expressed his belief that Kennedy "has been put on this planet for just this moment in time" and emphasized the "real need for him and his leadership."

"There's a need for very smart people in these positions that have integrity that [is] off the charts, that have the stamina and strength to be able to speak and be a leader 24/7, not just on occasion or on blips," Stockton said.
