Former President Donald Trump and Fox News have announced a town hall event in Iowa that will coincide with CNN's planned GOP primary presidential debate.
Both events are scheduled for January 10, at 9:00 p.m. ET.
According to a press release, Fox News will host a live town hall with former President Trump in Des Moines, Iowa. The event will be co-moderated by anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum. This will be the first time since May 2020 that Trump will sit down for a joint interview with Baier and MacCallum.
Meanwhile, CNN had planned to host a debate featuring Trump, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. However, Trump has decided to join Fox News for their town hall instead.
In addition to Trump's decision, GOP candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has also chosen to do his own event during CNN's debate. Ramaswamy, a longtime businessman, criticized the debate as "the most boring in history" and announced that he will be participating in a live-audience show in Des Moines with Tim Pool instead.
Ramaswamy cited several examples of CNN's reporting to justify his decision. He mentioned how CNN cut short its own Iowa town hall with him after he discussed uncomfortable truths about January 6th, which CNN dismissed as "conspiracy theories." He also highlighted comments from CNN commentator Van Jones, who described Ramaswamy's rhetoric as "one step away from Nazi propaganda," and Anderson Cooper, who accused Ramaswamy of delivering a "soliloquy of conspiracy theories."
Fox News stated that their town hall with Trump will focus on the key issues facing voters ahead of the Iowa Caucus. This event will provide an opportunity for Trump to address the concerns and priorities of the Iowa electorate.
