Call For Action: Republicans Call On Biden To VETO This UN Resolution

Republican Congressional lawmakers have asked President Joe Biden to veto an anti-Israel resolution scheduled to be put before the U.

N. Security Council.

Kevin McCarthy, Speaker of the House, wrote in an email to the President, "As the U.N. Security Council once again moves to consider another one-sided, biased, anti-Israel resolution, it is imperative that the United States maintain its position that only direct negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians can yield progress.

Steve Scalise, the Majority Leader, and House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul co-signed the message.

Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark) took to Twitter and declared that if the U.N. Security Council decides to take action against Israel on Monday, President Biden should be there to oppose it, as it is an absurd, politically driven action. The resolution of the United Arab Emirates claims that all Israeli settlements on "Palestinian territory" are unlawful and a flagrant violation under international law. It also denounces "unilateral moves," including annexation.

In a change from the decades-long U.S. policy, the Trump administration declared that the U.S. will not view Israeli settlements as a violation of international law.

Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) commented that instead of concentrating on grave threats from China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea, the United Nations continues its enmity towards Israel. He suggested that Biden should join Israel and veto the resolution. He also expressed the importance of not repeating the mortifying Obama-Biden abstention vote to override UNSCR 2334 in December 2016.

The Biden Administration must use its veto in the UN Security Council to defend our ally #Israel. This resolution will not lead to peace and only furthers anti-Israel actions at the UN," said Senator Jim Risch (R-ID).
