FBI And Denver Police Investigate Menacing Messages Targeting Colorado Supreme Court

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Denver police are currently investigating threats reportedly directed at the justices of the Colorado Supreme Court.

This follows their recent ruling that effectively bars former President Donald Trump from appearing on the state's ballots in the 2024 presidential election.

According to a report by Axios, online supporters of the former president have been found to be engaging in "significant violent rhetoric." This information was based on an analysis conducted by Advance Democracy, a nonpartisan research nonprofit, and was initially reported by NBC News last week.

The report cites comments from various anonymous social media accounts, including disturbing statements such as "This ends when we kill these f*ckers," and "What do you call 7 justices from the Colorado Supreme Court at the bottom of the ocean? A good start."

In response to these alleged threats, a spokesperson for the Denver Police Department informed Axios on Monday night that officers are "providing extra patrols around justice's residences." The police department also confirmed that they are "investigating incidents directed at Colorado Supreme Court justices and will continue working with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners to thoroughly investigate any reports of threats or harassment."

The spokesperson further stated that police "will provide additional safety support if/as requested," but declined to provide further comment due to safety and privacy considerations.

In a statement emailed to various media outlets, including Axios, the FBI stated that it "is aware of the situation and working with local law enforcement." The FBI added, "We will vigorously pursue investigations of any threat or use of violence committed by someone who uses extremist views to justify their actions regardless of motivation."

When asked for a comment, a spokesperson for the Colorado Judicial Branch advised Axios on Monday night that it does not comment on security-related matters.

The decision by the Colorado Supreme Court to exclude Trump from the state's 2024 election ballot has sparked significant controversy. While many on the left have seized the opportunity to celebrate this use of lawfare to prevent Trump's democratic selection in the state, others have condemned the move. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who is running as an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 election after initially joining the Democrat primary, said that such a move would make the United States "become ungovernable."

Kennedy stated last week, "Its time to trust the voters. It is up to the people to decide who the best candidate is. Not the courts. The people. Thats Democracy 101." He added, "When any candidate is deprived of his right to run, the American people are deprived of their right to choose."
