Four U.
S. Army soldiers were injured in a recent mission to take out an ISIS leader. A service dog was also injured in this mission. This is the information released in a U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) statement about the situation.
The United States conducted a joint helicopter raid with assistance from the Syrian Democratic Forces as well. CENTCOM did not specify precisely what the role of the Syrian Democratic Forces was, but it is known that they were involved in this raid somehow.
The statement said that the injured service members and the injured service dog were all receiving treatment at a military facility in Iraq. CENTCOM said: An explosion on target resulted in four U.S. servicemembers and one working dog wounded.
CENTCOM did not get into the details of what caused the explosion that resulted in the service members getting injured. They preferred to keep most of these details close to the vest.
According to Conservative Daily News, there are approximately 900 US troops in Syria. Those troops try to hold back any advances that ISIS might otherwise make in the country. They are doing the best they possibly can to hold back advances by the terrorist organization to help keep the rest of us safe from the possibility of ISIS rising to power in Syria and beyond.
In a February 10th raid, U.S. troops killed Ibrahim Al Qahtani and the ISIS leader. This was a significant milestone and accomplishment for the military in this case. However, they did end up sustaining injuries to these four service members and the service dog.
CENTCOM spokesperson Col. Joe Buccino said the following about the raid: ISIS represents a threat to our partners and to the people of Iraq and Syria and beyond, and Our mission to defeat ISIS alongside our [SDF] partners continues.
Reuters reported that ISIS had named Qahtani as their new leader after former leader Abu al-Hassan al-Hashemi al-Quraishi blew himself up in December in a matter that was unrelated to any U.S. military mission.
