In a recent development, Congressman Matt Gaetz has sought clarification from Delta Airlines CEO Ed Bastion regarding the transportation of non-resident migrants across the United States.
The migrants, many of whom are traveling solely with an arrest warrant, have been transported by Delta on behalf of various non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Gaetz posed several questions to Bastion, including, "How many non-resident aliens has Delta airlines transported on behalf of nongovernmental organizations since January 20, 2021?" He also queried about the financial arrangements between Delta and the NGOs, asking, "How do NGOs purchase or reimburse your airlines for tickets of non-resident aliens? Are you now receiving, or have you ever received any incentive for reimbursement, including money, credit, or other benefits from the federal government in exchange for the transport of non-resident aliens?"
The Congressman further inquired about the identification requirements for non-resident aliens, asking, "Has the TSA notified you of what forms of identification are acceptable for nonresident aliens to clear airport security and board your flights? If so, what are they?"
This correspondence with Bastion follows revelations that Delta has been involved in transporting illegal immigrants from Phoenix to New York City and other locations on late-night flights. The information was disclosed by Ashley St. Clair on X, who found herself seated next to non-resident migrants on a red-eye flight.
Since President Biden assumed office in 2021, over 7 million illegal immigrants have entered the US. Despite protests from lawmakers, the influx of individuals across the US-Mexico border, or their direct flights into the American interior, has not abated.
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has called for the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas due to his perceived failures at the border. In early 2021, Mayorkas had told potential immigrants, "we're not saying don't come, we're saying don't come now."
While Mayorkas and Biden have suggested that Congress needs to address the immigration issue, Congress has countered that the DHS is not adhering to the law. When Texas Governor Greg Abbott installed border buoys laced with razor wire in the Rio Grande, the Biden administration removed them, claiming Abbott lacked the authority. However, a federal court ruled in favor of Texas, allowing the barriers to remain.
