Tragic Loss: Friends Star Matthew Perry Cause Of Death Revealed

Matthew Perry, the renowned actor celebrated for his role in the hit sitcom "Friends," tragically succumbed to the acute effects of ketamine, an anesthetic with psychedelic properties.

This was revealed in the autopsy report issued on Friday by the Los Angeles County medical examiner's office.

The New York Times, citing the medical examiner's office, stated, "Drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of an opioid, buprenorphine, had contributed to his death. However, the autopsy primarily attributed his death to 'the acute effects of ketamine.' Ketamine is a potent anesthetic increasingly used as an alternative therapy for depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other challenging mental health issues. It is also used recreationally."

Perry was discovered lifeless in his jacuzzi at his California residence near Los Angeles on October 28. Emergency services were alerted to a possible cardiac arrest at the location.

The autopsy report clarified, At the high levels of ketamine found in his postmortem blood specimens, the main lethal effects would be from both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression.

The report also disclosed that Perry had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy. However, the ketamine found in his system could not be linked to his most recent therapy session, which took place roughly a week and a half prior to his untimely death.

Perry's struggles with addiction off-screen had caused significant distress among the Friends cast. His battles with drugs, alcohol, and painkillers, coupled with numerous stints in rehab, were well-known. In his memoir, "Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing," Perry openly discussed his trials and victories, aiming to help others facing similar struggles.

During promotional appearances for his book, Perry often became visibly emotional, shedding tears as he delved into his past challenges and expressed his regrets. Despite his struggles, his Friends co-stars remained steadfast in their support.

Following its publication in 2022, Perry's memoir quickly climbed the ranks to become a New York Times bestseller. Perry expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from his fans during this period.
