Colby Covington, a prominent figure in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), has publicly criticized LeBron James, a renowned player for the Los Angeles Lakers, following a video that showed James sitting down during the national anthem at the USC's arena.
The video was captured as James attended a game to watch his son, Bronny, play.
Covington, who is preparing for a welterweight bout against Leon Edwards at UFC 296 this weekend, voiced his disapproval on Wednesday night. He stated, "If you hate America so much, and you dont like this country that gave you a billion dollars leave it. Or come deal with me. Go to China. Go to these sweatshops that you employ all these laborers and use these women and pay them pennies on the dollar to make your millions. F--- you LeBron James. Youre a coward. Youre a spineless coward and youre a b----."
The video, posted by Luca Evans, a reporter for the Orange County Register, showed James entering the Galen Center with his younger son Bryce and two of his Sierra Canyon High School teammates. The footage revealed James sitting down as "The Star-Spangled Banner" played over the speakers, a move that some viewers interpreted as a lack of respect for the U.S. and its national anthem.
However, Evans defended James against the backlash, stating, "As the reporter who took this video, this is gross and completely mischaracterizes the situation. LeBron has done this for YEARS in Bronnys time at Sierra Canyon. Its objectively the best time to walk in so he doesnt cause a massive stir. Stop it."
Despite the controversy, James did not participate in Wednesdays game against the San Antonio Spurs. For more updates, follow Fox News Digitals and subscribe to their channel.
