Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovski revealed on Monday that the free speech platform had fallen victim to an "unprecedented" attack.
Pavlovski suggested that the attack was carried out by individuals seeking to censor Rumble's creators, possibly due to the platform's willingness to host certain videos, including footage of the January 6 Capitol riot.
In a post on X Monday afternoon, lawyer and commentator Viva Frei expressed her frustration, stating, "I was planning to go live, but Rumble and Locals are down. Apparently, it is a massive, unprecedented attack. One that is likely politically motivated. If I have any updates, I will let everyone know. Godspeed Rumble!"
Confirming Frei's suspicions, Pavlovski acknowledged that the attack had been ongoing since the weekend. "I also suspect it is political," he added, "coming from activists and/or organizations who want to censor our creators, and related to J6 videos being posted on Rumble."
The news of the attack prompted a strong reaction from prominent figures. Tim Pool simply stated, "War," while Elijah Schaffer described the attack as "absolutely unhinged behavior from enemies of free speech." Another user emphasized the significance of the attack, saying, "Their attacks show that Rumble is worth fighting for because free speech is worth fighting for."
This is not the first time Rumble has been targeted. In November, the platform experienced a "major DDoS attack" after Pavlovski vowed to join Elon Musk and "go thermonuclear as well" in response to a Media Matters hit piece on X. A DDoS attack involves flooding a server with internet traffic to render connected online services and sites inaccessible.
