In a recent video announcement, seasoned Democratic Representative Anna Eshoo of California declared her decision not to pursue re-election in 2024.
Eshoo, who has been a member of the House since 1993, has represented three distinct constituencies during her tenure, namely California's 14th, 18th, and 16th Congressional Districts.
Throughout her time in Congress, Eshoo has been recognized for her bipartisan efforts, with 66 of her bills being signed into law by five different presidents, as per the video announcement.
Eshoo expressed her gratitude to her constituents, stating, "Im choosing this beautiful season of thanksgiving to announce that I will not seek re-election, and I do so with a heart filled with unending gratitude to you, my magnificent constituents." She further acknowledged the trust her constituents placed in her over the past three decades, and how their support has enriched her representation of the distinguished congressional district.
Before her time in Congress, Eshoo served in various roles, including as chief of staff to Californias state House speaker pro tempore, a board member of the San Mateo County supervisors, and a Democratic National Committeewoman from the Golden State. Her decision to retire comes amidst a series of retirements in both the House and the Senate following a challenging year on Capitol Hill.

Reflecting on her legislative work, Eshoo stated, "Over all the years, my legislation and my votes have reflected the values of my constituents strengthen our democracy, protect our national security, perfect our union by making it fairer for all and build an economy that lifts up everyone." She pledged to continue her work with unwavering commitment and vigor as her final year in Congress approaches.
