Felicia Franklin, the former Vice Chair of the Clayton County Board of Commissions, is suing the county for wrongful termination following her dismissal.
Franklin was relieved of her duties after a video surfaced showing her in a heated altercation with medical professionals. The incident, which took place in September, was captured on police body cameras.
Franklin, in an interview with the Daily Mail, stated that she was filing the lawsuit on the grounds of wrongful termination. The video footage, which led to her dismissal, showed her shouting at medics and assaulting an EMT. The county officials unanimously voted for her dismissal following the incident.
In a statement released on Facebook on October 1, Franklin claimed that she was drugged. "It is believed by medical professionals that I was drugged with a GHB pill, more commonly known as the 'date rape pill,' and this incident has shaken me to my core," she wrote. She further added, "I will be working closely with authorities to ensure that justice is served, and I will also be advocating for improved safety measures at events like these."
However, Sgt. Scott Stewart of the Morrow Police Department disputed Franklin's claims. Speaking to Fox 5, he stated, "We have found no evidence to support that she was in fact drugged with GHB." He suggested that Franklin had consumed approximately "three and a half, four drinks" before the incident.
The police department alleges that Franklin consumed three drinks called "that's a home run," which contained 40-proof Grand Mariner and Hennessy, a glass of wine, and a swig of beer. This information was reported by Fox 5.
The New York Post reported that the video footage shows Franklin unconscious and lying on the ground near a bar when the police arrived. The footage shows her being lifted onto a stretcher by police officers. Upon regaining consciousness, she began shouting, swearing at the medics, and crying.
In the video, Franklin can be heard shouting, "I don't know what they gave me." She was also seen hitting an EMT in the ambulance and demanding him to "get the f-ck out of my face." Despite a police officer's warning that she was "about to go to jail," Franklin retorted, "I don't give a f-ck, get him out of my face."
