A heated exchange erupted on Tuesday between House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and Democratic Florida Representative Jared Moskowitz.
The confrontation occurred during a General Services Administration hearing, where Moskowitz accused Comer of engaging in questionable family business dealings.
Moskowitz criticized Comer's investigation into President Joe Biden and his family, insinuating that Comer himself had questionable dealings with his brother. "You also do business with your brother with potential loans," Moskowitz said, suggesting that Comer was being hypocritical in his investigation of the Bidens.
Comer swiftly denied the allegations, stating, "Ive never loaned my brother one penny." He explained that he had purchased farmland from his brother, who could not afford to keep it after their father's death. "My father, who was a dentist, had some farmland. He died and my brother couldnt afford it. He wanted to sell it but he wanted to keep it in the family. So I bought it from my brother," Comer said.
The Daily Beast reported that Comer paid $218,000 for the farmland, drawing parallels with the Biden family's transactions. Comer, however, rejected the comparison and defended his third-party company, "Farm Team Properties, LLC," against accusations of being a shell company. "It was an LLC, theyre so financially illiterate that [they] think because something says LLC its a shell company. This company, which I financially disclosed, has properties. Okay? It manages over a thousand acres of land," Comer said.
The exchange escalated when Moskowitz attempted to reclaim his time, only for Comer to refuse. Moskowitz then accused Comer of potentially evading taxes through his business dealings, a claim Comer vehemently denied. "You go on Fox News and say loans and deals are a way to evade taxes? We dont know if thats what youre doing or not," Moskowitz retorted.
Moskowitz suggested that Comer seemed rattled by the accusations and proposed a deposition. Comer agreed to the deposition, maintaining that his business dealings were above board and did not involve foreign transactions. "I didnt get wires from Romania, China," Comer said.
The House Oversight Committee has subpoenaed Hunter and James Biden, along with their former business associate Rob Walker, to answer questions about the Biden family's business dealings. A House memo released in September revealed that the Biden family and its associates had received over $24 million from Ukraine, Russia, China, Romania, and Kazakhstan between 2014 and 2019.
