In a chilling incident captured on surveillance video, a Dallas man and his stepson were subjected to a terrifying 15-second ordeal as three armed assailants attempted to rob them in their driveway.
The victims had just returned from a bank when the incident occurred.
Mark Gardner, the man targeted in the attempted robbery, recounted the horrifying experience to WFAA-TV. He expressed gratitude for surviving the ordeal, which took place on Tuesday afternoon. According to Gardner, the incident unfolded around 1 p.m., shortly after he and his stepson returned from the bank. A large vehicle suddenly blocked their car in the driveway, and three armed individuals emerged, brandishing firearms.
Gardner vividly recalled instructing his stepson to alert his mother and seek refuge in the house while he contacted the police. The surveillance footage corroborates his account, showing the trio of assailants attempting to gain access to the car by pulling on the door handles and attempting to shatter the windows.
Gardner pointed out the damage inflicted on his vehicle, stating, "This is where they took the butt of the gun and kept pounding it." In a swift response, Gardner managed to speed away from the scene, leaving the assailants to retreat to their vehicle. Despite the traumatic experience, neither Gardner nor his stepson sustained any physical injuries.
Interestingly, Gardner revealed that he had parked his car backwards in the driveway due to his suspicion of the vehicle that had been trailing him from the bank. He expressed hope that the suspects would reconsider their life choices and urged anyone who could identify them to report to the police.
"Maybe they think they're invincible. But if they think they're that tough, wait till they get to prison," Gardner warned.
Local law enforcement agencies have noted an uptick in such incidents, where robbers trail individuals from banks to rob them of large cash withdrawals. These incidents, known as "jugging," have resulted in severe consequences. In a particularly distressing case from March, a "jugging" incident left a young mother with a traumatic neck and spine injury, leaving her children uncertain about their future financial stability.
