In the midst of an escalating immigration crisis under President Biden's administration, hundreds of undocumented immigrants are reportedly being held in an outdoor enclosure in the sweltering heat of Arizona.
This situation, which was vehemently criticized by Democratic lawmakers during Trump's presidency, has seemingly been met with silence under Biden's tenure.
Footage captured on Wednesday at the Ajo sector of the US-Mexico border reveals a multitude of undocumented immigrants crammed into a fenced area after being detained by Border Patrol, awaiting processing.
Ajo, notorious as one of the most perilous regions along the Arizona border, has experienced a significant surge in illegal crossings amid a lethal heatwave over the past month. This has necessitated an increase in personnel and transportation resources by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, as reported by CNN.
A representative for U.S. Customs and Border Patrol stated, "Border Patrol has prioritized the quick transporting of noncitizens encountered in this desert environment, which is particularly dangerous during current weather conditions, to USBP facilities where individuals can receive medical care, food, and water."
Reportedly, only adult males are confined outdoors, while women, children, and vulnerable groups are housed within the station. Border Patrol asserts that these individuals are provided with food and water, and a canopy is in place for shade.
The Border Patrol, currently under strain, cautions that its station cannot offer adequate accommodations due to the "historic trend" of illegal crossings in Ajo. The agency describes this remote location, a mere two hours from Tucson, as "the hottest, most isolated, and dangerous area of the southwest border."
"The Ajo Border Patrol Station is not equipped to hold a large number of migrants due to historic trends in this area," the agency's spokesperson said.
According to Border Patrol, the undocumented immigrants traversing Ajo are being "callously" dispatched by human smuggling organizations, forced to trek for miles with "little or no water."
While former President Donald Trump faced severe criticism from Democratic lawmakers for "keeping kids in cages" as his administration grappled with the illegal immigration crisis, there has been no reported outrage from these same lawmakers as the border crisis continues to deteriorate under President Biden's open border policies.
Under Biden's leadership, an unprecedented number of undocumented immigrants have surged through the US-Mexico border, inundating surrounding towns, impacting cities nationwide, and overwhelming U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.
Arizona has been particularly affected in recent months. Just last week, over 300 predominantly West African immigrants illegally entered the United States through the border wall near Lukeville, Arizona, a situation Border Patrol described as a daily occurrence, according to Breitbart News.
