Two New York City teachers are calling out a COVID-19 vaccine policy that resulted in their termination.
Fox News reports that the pair of teachers are outraged by an NYC policy requiring that they receive the COVID-19 vaccine or risk termination from their jobs. Meanwhile, illegal immigrants are not required to get the vaccine in the city.
Cassey McFadden was a math teacher in Brooklyn for 25 years and came out of retirement to assist with the teacher shortage brewing in the city. However, the District quickly fired her job after she took a stance against receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. She spoke on Fox & Friends First and said that the entire city should be upset by the double standard put in place by the NYC government. She stated:
Its illegal, its unethical, and its insane, and then she said:
Theyre [actually] risking the safety of all New Yorkers. You cant have one policy for one group and another policy for another group.
The surge of illegal immigrants into New York City has caused many schools to have to accept illegal migrants, and this might have led to a rise in chickenpox, according to the New York Post.
Joy Newball is another teacher who refused to take the vaccine, and she stated that the District forced her to decide between her experience and her beliefs. She felt pushed against a rock and a hard place on this one. There was no question that she would have to decide if she would move forward with her desire to teach in New York City schools or if she would stick to her beliefs and refuse the vaccine. She ultimately decided to stick by her convictions.
She said she had to think about the best choice that supported my beliefs, that supported my convictions, and it was to allow the state Department of Education to terminate me.
and
It was a choice between keeping my qualifications or being pushed to choose that they [were going to] terminate me because I was not going to comply. I [was] never going to comply, so I had to choose to lose my career.
She expressed what a callous choice she felt forced to make because she had built up eight years of experience and tenure after teaching for that time. However, because of these vaccine policies, she had to give all of that up.
