Authorities are investigating a video of a student attacking a teacher.

The vicious attack left the teacher in the hospital. A GoFundMe helps sources identify the teacher as Tiwana Turner.

Ms. Turner was covering for another teacher when a student got off task. As every teacher does, she attempts to redirect the student. This quickly resulted in an argument that resulted in severe injuries, including a broken leg.

The video, which took place on January 26, takes place in a classroom at Heritage High School. The student and teacher got involved in a verbal disagreement. However, it quickly turned physical. The video shows the student slamming a door into the teacher and then punching her.

Then, the attack continues. According to Fox News, The attack continued into the hallway, where the teacher of 27 years was pulled to the ground and repeatedly punched, resulting in her being hospitalized. The GoFundMe account said she cannot walk after suffering knee and leg injuries, including a broken leg.

Her recovery will involve therapy and rehabilitation, preventing her from returning to work soon.

The student has been charged with aggravated battery and has left many outraged. People that support teachers are quick to point out that the behavior of the ninth-grader is one more reason that there continues to be a national teacher shortage. Verdaillia Turner is the President of the Georgia Federation of Teachers. She sat with Fox News 5 Atlanta to voice her opinions, including why the video was so disturbing.

Fox News says, Students are out of controlthere is no excuse for the violencethere is no excuse for children coming into our school daily and wreaking havoc so other students cannot learn, she told the outlet.

Students being out of control in the classroom puts other students and teachers at risk. This unprecedented violence has disrupted her life. However, we also cant ignore the mental health crisis plaguing the nation, including children. These children need help.
