The death of Tyre Nichols continues to make headlines, and Biden is using it to his advantage.
Bill Maher points out that having the family attend his upcoming State of the Union address is mere stunt casting.
According to Fox News, I feel like this is tragedy porn, Maher reacted to the news. I feel like this is gross. You know, its too soon to impose on that family now in their hour of grief to help you politically. I mean, its stunt casting, which they always do at the State of the Union address. We should be better than that.
Maher pointed out how President Biden is exploiting the grieving family. However, Mahers panelists, Bret Stephens, a New York Times columnist, and Democrat Ruben Gallego, disagree.
Stephens says its a personal call for the family to decide whether they would like to attend. He also recalled a widow at George Bushs address after 9/11. Gallego points out President Trump inviting Rush Limbaugh to give him the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Both of these are also forms of stunt casting at the same event. Its something that every President seems to do.
Gallego also points out that the nation is discussing the events that led to the tragic death of Tyre Nichols. He points out that the address is for the nation, so it makes sense for the family to be there.
However, as Maher points out, dismissing an invitation from the President of the United States is challenging. Maher then called the State of the Union address depressing because it used to be a time when the nation would come together. We dont see that anymore. Now, the country is too divided for that to happen. Others say traditions are essential, but traditions are also to bring people together, and Biden seems determined to continue to divide.
