See Ya Later Wacko: Authoritarian-Like PM Just Unexpectedly Resigned

According to the Daily Caller, Jacinda Ardern, the current Prime Minister of New Zealand, is set to resign.

She is the current leader of the Labour Party in New Zealand. She is set to step down by February 7th at the latest. Ardern stated that she no longer has what it takes in the tank to get the job done. Instead of pretending that everything was okay and that she could carry on, she decided the best route was to step back and let someone else handle the job.

The Guardian reported that Ardern said the following:

"I'm leaving, because with such a privileged role comes responsibility. The responsibility to know when you are the right person to lead and also when you are not."

and

"I know what this job takes. And I know that I no longer have enough in the tank to do it justice. It's that simple."

She continued by saying:

"I am human, politicians are human. We give all that we can for as long as we can. And then it's time. And for me, it's time."

Ardern was the youngest Prime Minister of New Zealand when she was first elected in 2017 at 37. However, some six years later, she feels like she needs more time to muster up the strength necessary to get the job done the way she would like it to.

Harsh lockdown measures were a big part of the policies Ardern put in place when the COVID-19 pandemic first began worldwide. Those decisions drew praise from some but a lot of criticism from others. The lockdowns were briefly lifted in New Zealand, but then they were reimposed after a single case of COVID was detected in the population. Ardern's government said that people in New Zealand should only move for "essential personal movements."

Ardern also delayed the parliamentary election in the country by four months in August 2020. She and her party ended up winning those elections, but many observers say that it was unfair to postpone the date of the elections at will like that. It gave Ardern and her party the advantage of setting the election date whenever they felt it might work out the best for them. Many are calling foul because of that, and they are glad to see that Ardern is stepping down as Prime Minister.
