A Philadelphia woman took matters into her own hands when she opened fire on four suspected burglars she found in her apartment over the weekend.
According to reports from WPVI-TV, the woman arrived at her apartment on Germantown Avenue and discovered four men inside without her permission. A confrontation ensued, leading the woman to open fire, shooting two of the suspects. All four men quickly fled the scene.
When officers arrived at approximately 1:30 a.m., they found the woman outside, standing over 48-year-old Jermaine Parker, who had sustained gunshot wounds to his hand and leg. Another suspect, 45-year-old Randy Miller, was located a few blocks away with a gunshot wound to his back. Both Parker and Miller were taken to Einstein Medical Center, where they were later charged with burglary and related offenses. Police recovered a weapon at the scene.
While Miller is currently listed in stable but critical condition, police are still searching for the other two suspects. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact the police.
Fortunately, the woman's actions are being considered an act of self-defense, and she will not face any charges, as reported by WTXF-TV. The neighborhood residents have expressed their support for the woman's actions, with one resident named Shawanda stating, "I think she did the right thing. This is my home, this is my safe haven ... so to have somebody in my house when I get there, why not?" Shawanda further added, "I don't think she should be charged with anything ... nothing should happen to her. Y'all should be looking for the guys that were in her house."
The sentiment is shared by landlord Martin Frazier, who told WTXF that he would have done the same thing in the woman's position. Frazier emphasized, "I feel like she had the right to do what she had to do to protect her and her family. I mean, I can't see anybody doing anything different."
