Laser Focused: Dem Jamie Raskin Sets Sights On Trump And Pence With This Move

Written by Published

Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., the top ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, sent a letter to U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly A. Cheatle requesting information about who had access to the homes of former President Trump and former Vice-President Pence, according to Fox News.

This comes as there has been a slew of controversies and issues with classified documents in the homes of both Pence and Trump. Additionally, classified documents have been found in the Delaware home of President Biden and at a location where he hosts a think tank in Washington, D.C.

This is a similar request to Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky. made requesting visitor logs for the home of President Biden. He made this request after the classified documents were found in Bidens home.

Raskin made a statement about why he is doing what he is doing by saying: Just last week, news reports revealed that attorneys for former Vice President Pence discovered approximately a dozen documents with classified markings at his home in Carmel, Indiana.

He wrote the following in his letter to the Secret Service: Given that the U.S. Secret Service provided protection for Mr. Trump and Mr. Pence during the time they stored classified materials at their respective residences, the Committee is seeking information from your agency regarding who had access to former President Trumps Mar-a-Lago Club and former Vice President Pences personal residence since leaving office,

He noted that the House Oversight Committee has the authority to investigate such matters. He recognized that Democrats have been investigating former President Trumps dealings with classified documents for some time. This is important because both parties appear to be playing a tick-for-tac game.

The letter that Raskin submitted requested that visitor logs for who went to or from Trumps Mar-A-Lago residence and Pences home in Indiana from January 21, 2021, to the present.

This seems to be quite an extensive request, and some wonder if the request might be overly broad for the former President and Vice-President to grant at this time.

There has been quite the dust-up about classified documents in the last few months as many high-profile politicians have been found to have classified documents stored improperly. That is a big deal, and it means that it is something that we are all having a national conversation about now.
