A man loaded his AR-15 and headed into Target.
Shoppers and staff began fleeing for their lives. However, police fatally shot him that afternoon, possibly saving hundreds of lives.
Fox News reports, Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said the man had plenty of ammunition and that evidence suggests he fired multiple rounds, but it wasnt immediately known if he fired at anyone.
There were multiple 911 calls to notify emergency responders of the situation. Thankfully, the police got to the store within minutes. The first officers confronted and shot the suspect, saving lives.
Police searched the store after the man was fatally shot. They stated that some people were still hiding in the store but did not find anyone wounded.
Cathay Mahanna, a 62-year-old grandmother, was one shopper in the store that day. She described that situation as panic. She said she heard a bang and saw people running for the stores exit.
She was standing nearby the door looking at Valentines gifts when one of the fleeing shoppers told her about the shooter. After that, she ran from the store.
Once in the parking lot, she was so shaken up that she could not find her car and got into a strangers car. According to Fox News, The moments in that parking lot were terrifying when I heard the shots and thought, Where do I hide? I dont know what to do. she said.
An employee stepped into a toilet to ensure the shooter wouldnt see her feet if they entered the bathroom where she was hiding.
The ATF is cooperating with the investigation. They are currently trying to trace the weapon he had to determine if he obtained the gun legally, where from, and other details that investigators need to know. They will also examine whether the weapon was used to commit other crimes.
