This development raises serious concerns for Americans who value constitutional limits, secure borders, and a strong national defense, as DSA-backed candidates move from protest politics into positions of real power.
DSA candidates are now entering the 2024 cycle as mainstream contenders, campaigning on a platform that would effectively rewrite the American constitutional order. Their Workers Deserve More program, far from a modest reform package, reads like a blueprint for dismantling the institutions that have anchored the republic for more than two centuries.
On Fox News, host Shannon Bream pressed Megan Romer, National Co-chair of the Democratic Socialists of America, to clarify just how extreme this platform truly is. Just give me sort of a true or false on these, Bream said, before listing proposals that included abolishing the Senate, replacing the President and Supreme Court with Congressionally appointed leaders, abolishing ICE, abolishing borders and granting mass amnesty, defunding the Pentagon, abolishing prisons, and government ownership of business.
Romer confirmed that all of the policies are part of their plan, leaving little doubt that the DSAs objective is not reform but radical transformation. For voters who believe in separation of powers, national sovereignty, and free enterprise, the agenda amounts to an open assault on the American way of life.
CNNs own breakdown shows that this democratic socialist bloc is disproportionately young and White, with 59 percent under 45 and 57 percent identifying as White, compared with 46 and 49 percent respectively among other Democratic-aligned voters. They are also less likely to hold a college degree (66 percent versus 54 percent) and more likely to earn under $100,000 a year (76 percent versus 65 percent), a demographic profile that progressive activists have aggressively targeted with promises of expansive government benefits.
These voters are not only more ideologically extreme but also more energized, with 66 percent of registered democratic socialists saying they are extremely motivated to vote this year, compared with 57 percent of other Democrats. They overwhelmingly back Democratic congressional candidates99 percent support for democratic socialists versus 94 percent for non-socialistsand are notably more favorable toward the Democratic Party and its leaders while holding more negative views of Republicans and their congressional leadership.
When Democrat Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was asked about the DSAs growing influence and its explicit call to abolish the very chamber he leads, he had no substantive response. Completely sidestepping the question, Schumer, whose popularity is rapidly diminishing, instead offered the stock party line that Democrats were united in working to defeat Trump, a telling evasion that leaves voters to wonder how far the party is willing to follow the DSA down this radical path.
